Donald W. Grant

in Rodrigue Montpetit & Fils

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Donald W. Grant on March 6, 2026. Dad is predeceased by our Mom, his loving wife of 55 years, Janet Paul Grant, as well as his companion in later years, Leah McGibbon Brooks, and his sister Arline (Gene) of Idaho, USA. He leaves to mourn his four children Douglas (Joy), Wilene (Alan), Wendy (Tom) and Donna (Jon), nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, and a vast community of friends. Dad lived the entirety of his life of 92 years in the home where he was born. A farmer and steward of the earth, carpenter, founding and active member of the Hinchinbrooke Volunteer Fire Brigade for 25 years, and a member of Elgin Council. He was a lifetime member of the Athelstan Presbyterian Church where he served as a Manager for 57 years, Elder for 64 years, and Clerk of Session for 46 years until his passing. He was also a trustee of the Athelstan Cemetery Company for over 60 years. He will be remembered for his determination, dedication and commitment to family and community.

Our sincere thanks go to the staff at the Barrie Memorial Hospital, and especially to Dr. Talbot and the third floor nurses and aids. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 1:30 in the afternoon at the Athelstan Presbyterian Church, Athelstan, Quebec, with private burial at a later date. In keeping with Dad’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athelstan Cemetery Company (℅ Donald Elder, 6B Bouchette Street, Huntingdon, QC J0S 1H0), The Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital (28 Gale Street, Ormstown, QC J0S 1K0) or a charity of your choice. Funeral Entrusted to Rodrigue Montpetit et Fils Inc. 170 Châteauguay St., Huntingdon, Quebec J0S 1H0, 450-264-5331. Online condolences and tributes may be made at www.rodriguemontpetitfils.com
