“A beautiful soul has found her rest.”
Doris Marie Ondrias Lothrop, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in San Antonio.
She was born on September 21, 1936, in Marion, Kansas to Benedict and Ida Layton Ondrias, who preceded her in death.
Doris lived a life grounded in faith, resilience, hard work, and devotion to family. A devoted Catholic, her faith remained at the center of her life. She faithfully prayed the rosary, found comfort in daily prayer, and generously supported charitable causes close to her heart, including ASPCA, Food For The Poor, The Fatima Center, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
She began her career as a dental assistant and, after the birth of her daughter, chose to open and operate her own in-home daycare and nursery, where she cared for and nurtured many children over the years. Doris was formerly married to Mel Lothrop, with whom she shared 24 years, a family, and many important chapters of life.
Above all, Doris was deeply devoted to her children and family. She was a strong-willed, protective mother who believed in hard work, discipline, and doing what she believed was right. Her love was often expressed through guidance, high expectations, and sacrifice. She devoted much of her life to supporting and encouraging her daughter’s dreams and ambitions, always wanting the very best for her children. She challenged those she loved to be stronger, wiser, and better than they believed they could be. Though not always easy to understand in the moment, her devotion and sacrifices became some of her greatest gifts.
Doris loved her family, friends, and neighbors. She took pride in caring for her home and yard, piano, enjoyed reading, and remained active, independent, and full of spirit throughout her life. Very little could ever slow her down.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lothrop; granddaughter Lisa Walker Patrick; grandson Carl Robert Walker; daughter-in-law Carol Fawcett; great-grandchildren Alyssa DePinto, Ian Rivenbark, Julia Rivenbark, and Ariel Walker; former husband Mel Lothrop; and siblings Anthony Ondrias, Johnny Ondrias, Robert Ondrias, James Ondrias, and Joan Ondrias.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Carl Wayne Walker; and her sisters, Thelmna Rauschuber and Mary Narmore.
A visitation and rosary in honor of Doris’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved son, Carl Wayne Walker.
Services will be officiated by Doris’s beloved priest, Father Kevin Shanahan of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, whose presence held special meaning to her and her family.
Doris will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strength, her determination, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew and loved her.
