Ernest R. Capoldi, 89, passed peacefully while surrounded by family on May 4, 2026. He was loved as a son, brother, uncle, husband, and father.
Born in Philadelphia, in 1936, he and his growing family would move to El Paso, Texas in 1968. It is in his adopted city that he would find his permanent home, but he would remain a devoted fan to both the Phillies and the Eagles.
Ernie would hold several careers over the decades. Most of his years were in mid- and upper-management of The Popular Dry Goods stores. His second career would be the result of the closing of The Popular in 1996 when Ernie joined the company that liquidated the store, Schottenstein Group. Ernie’s third iteration would be as a realtor / property manager under the auspices of Optimum Realtors.
As a father, his direct line would include five children, seven grandchildren, and a myriad of great-grandchildren. His first child, Debbie, would marry Jose Ortega, and they raised Veronica and Adrienne. His second child, Donna, raised Brad (d), Monica, and Abigail. His third child, Karen, would marry Don Elkins, and they raised Kevyn and Lindsey. His fourth child, “Little” Ernie, would marry Yvonne Lucero, and his last child, Cheryl, would marry James Huston.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lucy, his sister, Marie, his niece, Terry, his wife, Dorothy, his son, Ernie, and his son-in-law, James. Now he is at peace and reunited with the ones he loved.
In lieu of flowers, please, if moved to do so, donate to a charity of your choice in his name.
