Eugene Lyle Scammon

Eugene Lyle Scammon passed on April 17, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on September 25,1948, the son of Elmer and Ella Scammon. Gene, as he was known, lived his entire life in Almira. He graduated from Almira High School in June of 1967. He went to work as a farmhand for the Hughes family driving truck and harvesters and doing other related farm chores. Later on, he became the store manager of Lincoln Mutual. He married Sandra Fawn Conklin on June 22, 1974. Sandy taught 1st grade in Almira until her retirement in 2008. Gene was actively engaged in his hometown of Almira and served as mayor. Gene and Sandy adopted a 5-year-old girl on November 25,1980, Sidra Joy Lee Scammon. Gene and Sandy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2024. Gene passed away peacefully in his home on April 17, 2026. He was a member of the Almira Community Church. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife and daughter. He was a kind man of few words, known to be a loyal and honest friend. His selflessness, optimism and booming “Well hello there!” to everyone he met will be missed by many.

If you were left off this list by mistake, please know that you were counted in Dad’s heart. He was a man of few words, but he was so appreciative of everybody’s help and love and care for him and for mom over the years. Words cannot express the debt of gratitude that we have for each of you. God bless you each one.
