James Carson Hill

April 18, 2026 Alma, Quebec Dignity Memorial

James Carson Hill, 86, ascended to his heavenly home on April 18, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Jim was born on February 17, 1940 to Jay David and Mary Katherine Hill in Bountiful, Utah. He also lived in Las Vegas and Phoenix before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the early 1950's. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1959, had two years of college, worked for Greyhound Bus Lines and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. In 1973 Jim became acquainted with Deborah Lips, and they were married on October 25, 1975. They were blessed with a daughter, Carissa, in 1979 and enjoyed a particularly close relationship, celebrating their 50th anniversary last October.

Jim held a number of sales positions in Minneapolis and Racine, Wisconsin on regional and national levels before moving to Debbie's hometown of Bismarck, North Dakota in 1992 to open an interior design business. Jim focused on the commercial side of the window coverings business and was a very hard worker, doing most of the installations himself. With an offer to buy their business, Jim and Debbie moved to Arizona, where they had enjoyed visiting. In their second year there, Jim started driving a school bus for Mesa Public Schools, which he did for nine years. He always enjoyed having a purpose.

One of Jim's passions was golf. After moving to Bismarck, he connected with a regular fivesome, also enjoying playing with Debbie's dad and brothers, occasionally. Being a very kind and considerate gentleman, Jim had a magnetic personality and a wonderful sense of humor, which he displayed even in his final days to his attending nurses. He also was a dedicated member of AA for over 45 years, helping many to find their way in the program.

Besides Debbie, Jim leaves behind their daughter Carissa, husband Jake and granddaughter Elsa Edson in Bozeman, Montana, son Peter (from a previous marriage) and family in Savage, Minnesota and a sister, Erin Martin, and family in St. Augustine, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, Reed Burr, and brother, Dave.

Dear Lord, grant him peace.
