Joseph Chun Wai Siu

May 4, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Joseph Chun Wai Siu, affectionately known to family and friends as Joe, was born on July 15, 1939, in Zhongshan, China. He spent several years living in Hong Kong before immigrating to Canada in 1968 to build a new life and future for his family.

Joe passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, Christine, and his children, Lillian, Wingo, and Milton.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, children, daughter-in-laws Eva and Bernice, granddaughter Amanda, grandson Ethan, older sister in Hong Kong, older brother in Vancouver, extended family, and many dear friends.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was a fierce protector of those he loved and was always willing to do whatever was needed to provide for his family. A hardworking and gentle man, Joe often worked two jobs to create opportunities for his children and provide them with an education and life he himself did not have.

Joe built a successful career in the restaurant industry as a respected restaurateur and hospitality professional. Over the years, he owned several restaurants, including China Palace, one of the first fine dining Chinese and hot pot restaurants in the 1970s, Sir Walter Raleigh, Vintage and most recently, Normandy on Granville and 11th where he was known as the Mayor of South Granville. He also worked for many years at Hy’s Mansion, where he was known for his flambé presentations for celebrities and guests alike.

Hospitality was more than a profession for Joe—it reflected who he was. He had a warm, welcoming personality and a natural gift for making people feel comfortable, cared for, and appreciated. Many guests returned again and again because of his friendly nature, generosity, and genuine kindness.

His family was always his greatest priority. Joe found joy in the happiness of others and was happiest when he could care for those around him—whether by helping with a task, offering food or drink, sharing conversation, or simply making someone smile.

Though small in stature, Joe had an enormous heart. He was known for his warm smile, kind nature, sense of humor, and love of laughter and jokes. He brought comfort, generosity, and love to those around him, always putting others before himself.

Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, strength, sacrifice, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family and friends.

Joe’s greatest joy was seeing those around him happy, and his legacy of love, generosity, and hospitality will continue through all who knew him.
