Lally Arra Mitchell

Lally Arra Mitchell, 83, of Bonaventure Quebec, passed away quietly on April 11, 2024, in New Carlisle, Quebec.Born on April 4, 1941, to Arra McCarthy and Alexander Mitchell in Toronto, Lally attended the University of New Brunswick and later McGill University receiving a Bachelor and a Masters of Education.She was married to Grant MacKenzie (1964-1977) and had three children, Colin, Alex and Kathy. They lived in Clova, Maniwaki, Chelsea, and La Tuque Quebec. Divorcing in 1977, Lally moved to Laval with her children to complete her schooling at McGill and carried on to work as an early childhood educator for the Eastern Shores School Board in Murdochville and then in New Carlisle, travelling frequently to various schools in the region. In her later years, she realized her dream of opening a Bed and Breakfast.Lally was an avid reader, lover of music, talented baker and chef, and a tireless volunteer. She and her partner Kevin were a foster family and opened their home to many children over the years. She is remembered most for her generosity, selflessness, sense of humour, curiosity and humble demeanour. She was a beloved partner, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Lally is survived by her partner Kevin Patterson and her children Colin, Alex and Kathy, grandchildren William, Jonathan, Patrick, Jacob, Rebecca, and Emilie, and great-grandchildren Annabelle, Noah, Jax, and Adrien. She is also survived by her brother Michael Mitchell and Kevin’s children Dwayne, Dawn, Martin, Jason, and Lyndsay.She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Alec.

A memorial will be held at 3 pm with a service at 4 pm on April 18, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, New Carlisle. Donations in her honour may be made to Family Ties, New Carlisle QC.
