Lawrence Eugene Washington

May 9, 2026 Colombier, Quebec Dignity Memorial

It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Lawrence Eugene Washington, affectionately known as “Genie Boy,” who peacefully departed this life on May 9, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on March 6, 1938, Lawrence was a lifelong resident of Columbia, Missouri, where he built a life rooted in faith, family and friendship. Lawrence was known for his warm smile, kind spirit, wisdom, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.

Lawrence attended and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School, where he proudly played football and carried the spirit of a true Douglass Bulldog throughout his life. He was passionate about football, loved traveling, and cherished spending time with his family and friends. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or simply being present with loved ones, Lawrence made every moment meaningful.

He retired from G.T.E. after years of dedicated service and was a member of Fifth Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Columbia, Missouri, where his faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.

To his family, Lawrence was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather — he was a protector, provider, teacher, and source of unconditional love. His guidance, strength, and presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife, Ollie Washington; son, James Washington; daughters, Cheryl Howard (DuValle) and Ebony Gavin; grandchildren Aqua Washington, Julius Williams, DonDre’ Gavin-Cameron, DaQuan Gavin, Deric Cravens and Jordan Washington; great-grandchildren Ja’Vieon Washington, Mylon Washington, Aaliyah and Sunny, step-daughters Lujwana Mosley and Lori Craig; along with a host of extended family members, a special cousin Mary Turner, step-grandchildren Latisha Cain (Demarkus) and Tiffany Edewu (Joelu) and dear friends

Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Minnie Washington, whom he loved dearly, and Lawrence Washington; as well as his favorite aunts, Betty Jennings and Elizabeth Cochran.

Though our hearts are broken by this tremendous loss, we are grateful for the many years, memories, lessons, and love he gave so selflessly. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved dearly. Rest peacefully, “Genie Boy.” Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, and your love will remain with us forever.
