Maria Armenia Tadeu

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Armenia Tadeu of Danbury, Connecticut, who passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 95.

Maria Armenia was born on August 16, 1930, in the mountaintop village of Folgosinho, Portugal, the daughter of the late José dos Santos Nogueira and Palmira de Almeida Nogueira. She immigrated to the United States in 1966 and built a meaningful life devoted to her family, friends, and faith.

She will be fondly remembered for her gentle nature, quiet strength, and unconditional love for her family. Though naturally reserved, Maria Armenia found great joy in gathering family and friends around her table. She had a warm and welcoming spirit, and her home was always open to those she loved.

Maria Armenia was the beloved wife of the late Acacio Nascimento Tadeu, with whom she shared 66 loving years of marriage. She is survived by her three daughters: Dulce Tadeu; Palmira Pires and her husband, Mario; and Paula Tadeu-Pokluda and her husband, William.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Dan Pires and his wife, Erin; Sabrina Coito and her husband, Fernando; Sebastian Pokluda; and Siena Pokluda. Her great-grandchildren, Alex and Carina Coito, who also brought immense pride and joy.

In addition, she is survived by her three younger brothers: José de Almeida and his wife, Ana; Fernando Nogueira and his wife, Celeste; and Avelino Nogueira and his wife, Maria Donzilia; along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

Maria Armenia enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and participating in church activities. She enjoyed spending summers in Portugal and, above all else, treasured spending time with her family. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and love, where family and friends were always warmly welcomed.

She will be forever remembered for her love, strength, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, CT. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.

Friends will be received from 9:00am - 10:30am on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
