Surrounded by family, Michael passed away peacefully at home after fighting leukemia for nearly three years. Michael was born in Seattle and lived on Beacon Hill before moving to Mercer Island as a teenager.
After graduating from Seattle University in 1970, Michael entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Artillery at Fort Sill, OK, and served as a Training Officer at Fort Dix, NJ. After being Honorably Discharged in 1972 as a 1st Lieutenant, he spent several years working in leadership roles for the Seattle School District.
In 1980, Michael joined the family business, DP Aviation, fulfilling a long-held dream to work alongside his father. Over the years, he built lasting relationships with clients and friends around the world and worked closely with family members involved in the company, including his three children. Michael was a Partner and then served as President of DP Aviation until retiring in 2025.
Michael lived a life of generosity and humor that left lasting impressions on anyone with the good fortune to make his acquaintance. He carried with him a love of music, the arts, television and film, world travel, and of course, his family. As a proud father of three and protective big brother to four younger sisters, Michael was never more at home than at the many Pietromonaco family gatherings where he could share his stories, advice, and signature long, hilarious jokes.
Michael is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy; his children Shannon (Brian) and Christa (Eric); his grandchildren Dylan, Taylor, Michael, and Siena; his sisters Kathy, Toni, Elaine, and Teresa; his stepdaughter, Heather; and his step-grandchildren Madden, Tya, and Ellody, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Donna; his son, Michael Patrick; and his stepson, Brandon.
Michael will be missed by all who knew him, family and friends alike, for the loving and caring person he was throughout his life. God bless Michael. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are appreciated.
