It is with profound sadness that the family of Paula Katz announces her peaceful passing at home on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of Saul Katz for 73 years. Loving mother of Joanne Gottheil (nee Katz) and Ian Katz (Julie Sananes). Cherished grandmother of Brian Gottheil (Carolyn Sealfon), Stephanie Gottheil (Joe Carson), and Benjamin Katz. Dear great-grandmother of Emily and Max Carson. Predeceased by her siblings Selma Ettinger and Isui Katz.
Paula’s devotion to her husband and children was endless. Highly intelligent and determined, she worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life. After retiring, she taught herself to use a computer and was able to email with her children and grandchildren. She was a voracious reader and she enjoyed playing bridge, doing so online daily when she was no longer able to go out.
A Holocaust survivor, Paula considered the continued survival of the Jewish People to be of the utmost importance. She kept a kosher home and imparted traditional Jewish values to her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Shabbat and Holiday services online.
Paula was courageous and resilient when faced with illnesses and physical challenges in her life. She set an example for all of us by persevering throughout and finding ways to adapt in order to continue living a meaningful life.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Paula’s caregivers, Jovie, Marialuz, Grace and Monsie, for their exceptional care and devotion.
Graveside service will take place on Sunday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery, De La Savane, Pinsker #3, Section (B-4).
Shiva will be held at her home.
Donations in Paula’s memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251 ; Mada Community Centre ; or the Montreal Holocaust Museum.
