William “Will” Wardell Adams was a steady presence in a chaotic world—a calm in the storm for all who knew him. With quiet strength, an easy laugh, and a willingness to sit down and talk things through. Will had a way of making people feel grounded, heard, and at ease.
Born on July 16, 1943, in Covington, Tennessee, to Earnest Wardell and Bessie Adams, Will carried that steadiness with him throughout his life. He dedicated more than 30 years to Peoria Public Schools, serving as a history teacher, counselor, and high school principal. He believed deeply in the potential of young people and took pride in guiding them—not just in school, but in life. His influence was lasting, built on consistency, fairness, and care.
At Peoria Manual High School, Will excelled in basketball and track, earning a four-year scholarship as a javelin thrower at Western Illinois University. His love of sports stayed with him throughout his life. Whether it was pickup basketball at the park or a round of golf, he showed up with the same quiet dedication. In retirement, golf became one of his greatest joys—something he pursued faithfully every Tuesday and Thursday, even under the intense Arizona sun.
Will found peace in simple things, especially working in the yard—a love he shared with his mother, whom he deeply adored. But his greatest joy was his family. He was a constant presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, always offering support, encouragement, and pride in all they did.
Though he was a man of few words, his presence spoke volumes. He lived his faith daily, grounded in trust and guided by the words he believed deeply: “Do not worry, do not be afraid” (Joshua 1:9). In every season of life, he embodied that message.
Will transitioned peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Wardell Adams and Bessie Adams; his brother, Melvin Adams; and his daughter-in-law, Heidi Adams.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Maynell Adams, and their sons, Kord (Kim) Adams and Daras Adams. He was a proud grandfather to Khalil, Gabrielle, Kaleb, Simone, Kennedy, Isaiah, and Noelle Adams, and a joyful great-grandfather to Naomi Adams.
Will is also survived by his siblings Rosemary (Eddie) Bolden, Lonnie Adams, and Cora Williams; his sisters-in-laws Freda Barnes and Carol Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory forward.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his calming spirit, his laughter, and the way he brought people together, whether in conversation, in family, or simply in being there when it mattered most. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Red Mountain Community Church, 6101 E. Virginia St., Mesa, Arizona 85215, on May 9, 2026, at 3:00 pm.
