Andrew Vance Armstrong

2 mai 2026 Austin, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Andrew Armstrong died unexpectedly on May 2nd, 2026, in Austin, Texas. He was 40. Andrew lived a life impossible to fit neatly into words.

Andrew Vance Armstrong was born on May 20th, 1985, in Fort Worth, Texas. His father, Michael, was a medical student at the time, and his mother, Nancy, was a stay-at-home mother to Andrew’s two older sisters. Dr. Armstrong became a surgeon and family practitioner, settling in San Antonio and enjoying proximity to Andrew.

From a young age, Andrew cared deeply about fairness and about ensuring the people around him felt seen, valued, and cared for. Thoughtful and deeply observant, he moved through the world with both intelligence and empathy. That same compassion guided his work at The Burke Center for Youth, where he supported adolescents who had experienced trauma, neglect, and abuse. His commitment to serving those who are too often overlooked continued through his work with Life-Skills, Inc., a residential group home that supports adults with disabilities. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, providing both nourishment and companionship to vulnerable older adults. In every role, Andrew brought dignity, patience, autonomy, and genuine compassion to the people he served, helping improve not only their quality of life but also their sense of being truly seen and valued.

Andrew was fiercely loyal, deeply compassionate, and endlessly encouraging. His friendships were lasting and meaningful because of the genuine care and devotion he gave so freely to the people he loved. Andrew felt deeply and loved wholeheartedly, bringing intensity, empathy, and sincerity to every relationship and chapter of his life. His random emojis and perfectly timed texts will be missed more than words can express. His devotion also extended to the companionship and care of his beloved pets, Sasha and Ellie.

Andrew was remarkably quick-witted, with a dark, absurd sense of humor that made him effortlessly hilarious. He had the sharp observational instincts of a comedic writer and began sharing that gift through social media, where his humor resonated with countless people. One of his posts became unexpectedly viral, even sparking a BuzzFeed article about a heated Twitter debate over stovetop burners.

Andrew sought out the uncommon road, embracing adventure and individuality with enthusiasm and fearlessness. Friends cherished his adventurous spirit and the way he brought people together through music, laughter, and shared experiences. He loved discovering new bands and chasing experiences that made life feel vivid and unforgettable. Music was one of Andrew’s great loves. Through his particular brand of persuasion, namely complete control of the car stereo and a captive audience on long drives, he made sure everyone eventually learned to appreciate the full Nirvana catalog.

Andrew’s insatiable curiosity constantly pulled him toward new interests: rock climbing, motorcycle touring, skateboarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding, kiteboarding, woodworking, and straight razor craftsmanship. He loved literature and spirited political discourse, and was endlessly curious, always searching for meaning, authenticity, and understanding. Fascinated by history, people, and the complexities of the world around him, he pursued ideas and knowledge with genuine passion and intensity. Whatever captured his attention, he pursued wholeheartedly, immersing himself completely until he felt he had mastered it, only then setting off toward the next adventure waiting just beyond the horizon.

Andrew attended Texas State University and Western Governors University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He later completed his master’s degree in accounting at Western Governors University and built a successful career as a senior accountant while pursuing his latest goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

He is survived by his loving parents, Dr. Michael and Nancy Armstrong; his sisters, Karen Armstrong and Megan Staley; and his nieces, Cora and Sophia. He will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, humor, loyalty, and the unmistakable way he made those around him feel valued and loved.
