Deane Crowell Nolde

14 mai 2026 Chesterville, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Deane Crowell Nolde, born August 31, 1952, in Stamford, Connecticut passed away at the age of 73 in Chesterfield, Virginia on May 14, 2026. She will be remembered for her sincere kindness, long-lasting friendships, and the incredible impact she made on those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris Buchanan Crowell and her beloved father, Robert Edward Crowell, Sr. Deane grew up and was raised in Chester, Virginia. From an early age, she developed a deep appreciation for family, faith, and community that remained the foundation of her life.

Deane is survived by her loving husband, George Frederick Nolde III; her children, Paul Nolde (Tatum) of Richmond, Va, and Frederick Nolde, (Courtney) of Charlottesville, Va; and her beloved grandchildren, Connor, Hayes, James, Anna, and Charlotte Nolde.

She is also survived by her brother, Robert E. Crowell, Jr. (Stacy), and their children Riley and Sam Crowell; and her sister, Sandra C. Messer (Rick), and their children Michael (Fallon), Sarah, Ben, and Bailey Messer.

On August 2, 1980, she married her husband, George, with whom she shared a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. When Deane first started to exhibit signs of Alzheimer’s nearly 16 years ago, George always sought to find her the best treatment or the next option for pain management.

Deane graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Theoretical Math in 1974 following two years at Meredith College and went on to pursue a career in nuclear computer programming with Babcock and Wilcox in Lynchburg. She was part of the first class of women admitted to the University of Virginia, a milestone her children and husband carried with pride throughout her life.

She was a devoted Christian throughout her life. Her faith was central to who she was, and she was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond, Virginia, where she found great purpose, community, and spiritual strength.

Deane was a giver in every sense of the word. She devoted most of her life to raising her two boys, being a devoted wife, loving and spending time with her grandchildren, and being the best friend, volunteer, and person, anyone could imagine. Her life was defined by generosity, selflessness, and unwavering love for her family and community.

She touched many lives with her humble kindness, radiant joy, and zest for life (and infectious laugh), leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion. She also leaves behind many loving family members and close friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 o’clock on Saturday, May 30th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 North Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia, followed by a private family burial at Hollywood Cemetery. A Visitation will take place on Friday, May 29th from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia.

The family wishes to thank Catherine at Admired and Retired for the loving hospice care that Deane received in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deane’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond, Virginia or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
