Today we celebrate the life of our Mum.
She grew up in Morin-Heights, Quebec, where her father, Carl, owned the local general store & sawmill. One of her fond childhood memories was stopping by the store daily for a chocolate bar. She loved swimming in the summer and skiing in the winter and later attended boarding school in the Eastern Townships.
As a young woman, she worked for Mr. Eaton at CN and was proud that, for a time, she earned more money than Dad when they were first married. She met Dad when she was 19, and one of the things she loved most about him was how much he made her laugh. They married when she was 21 and built a life and family together.
Mum’s greatest wish was to be a stay-at-home mother, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her family. She became a mother at a young age and was blessed with five children: Len, Debbie (who predeceased her), Laurie, Robyn, and Ronnie.
She adored all of her grandchildren & great grandchildren and was proud of each and every one of them. Family meant everything to her.
Mum was also incredibly social. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone she had just met, she had a way of making people feel welcome and seen. She loved visiting, laughing, sharing stories, and connecting with people.
She lived a life filled with love, family, friendship, and simple joys. We will remember her warmth, her sense of humour, her strength, and the love she gave so freely to all of us.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
