Robert Hicks Hampton, 95, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026 with his family at his side.
He was born September 7, 1930 to John Hicks and Cora Mae Walling Hampton. Robert is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marialice Slater Hampton and his three daughters, Karen Anne Lee, Cheryl (Scott) Sargent, and Alecia (John) Jenkins; grandchildren Robert (Sarah) Lee, Tiffany (Kurt) Williams, Austin Lee, Brian (Maria) Sargent, Caroline (Will) Ruez, Shannon (Brian) Jenkins Tyner, Shayla (Scott) Winslett, and John Hampton (Justin) Thompson-Jenkins; and sixteen great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Delbert Wayne Hampton.
Robert and Marialice met at church camp in Palacios, Texas in 1947 and were married January 19, 1951. Robert attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated from The University of Houston with a Business Degree.
Robert owned Hampton Hardware, which he operated from 1951 to 1966. During that time, he was one of the seven charter members of Handy Hardware Association and also served as President. In 1966 he transitioned into the investment business as a stock broker, pursuing his ultimate career as an investment advisor. He earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner and formed his own firm. Robert later served on the board of the College of Financial Planning and as its President. He retired in 2020 at the age of 90.
Robert was an avid reader and outdoorsman, hunting and fishing all over North and South America. In addition, he was a pilot that owned several airplanes including an amphibious aircraft that he completed building in 1988. Robert and Marialice traveled extensively throughout the world. His favorite pastimes were the family gatherings sharing stories and memories.
Robert and Marialice were members of The Houston Club, Petroleum Club and Quadrille Dance Club where they enjoyed ballroom dancing with friends. They have been members of First United Methodist Church of Houston for over fifty years where they are members of the Adelphi Sunday School Class.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 31st at First United Methodist Church of Houston. Visitation at 1:30pm and service at 2:30pm.
