It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Carl Hétu on May 27 2026, at the age of 66, at the Gatineau Hospital.
Carl devoted his life to the service of others and the pursuit of justice and peace. Over more than three decades, he served Development and Peace Caritas Canada and CNEWA with vision and humility, mobilizing communities, strengthening partnerships, and advocating for vulnerable people around the world. A compassionate and unifying leader, he was guided by his Catholic faith and by a deep belief in the dignity of every person. His legacy lives on in the many people, communities, and causes with which he was involved.
He will be missed by his beloved wife Lorraine, his children Matthieu, Jonathan, Stéphanie, and Cécile, and his grandchildren Clara, Raphael, and Mia whom he greatly cherished. He also leaves in mourning his sisters Hélène and Josée, his half-sister Fabienne and half-brother Xavier, his uncle Jacques and aunt Carole, as well as many other family members, friends, and co-workers.
His love, guidance, and presence along with his ‘’Joie de vivre’’ will remain with us always.
A visitation will be held on June 12th, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, Pavillon Lac Beauchamp, located at 750 Maloney Boulevard East, Gatineau, Qc, J8P 1G4.
The funeral service will take place on June 13th, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Sainte-Rose-de-Lima Parish, 861 Saint-René Boulevard East, Gatineau, Qc, J8P 2G1. The family will receive condolences as of 1:15 p.m.
A ceremony in his honour will follow the Mass at 4 p.m. at the reception hall of Sainte Maria Goretti Parish, 664 de Duberger Street, Gatineau, Qc, J8P 3Y2.
