Kenneth Wayne Coats, 80, of Athens passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Limestone Nursing and Rehab. He was born on December 10, 1945, in Limestone County to Jesse Coats and Mamie Mae Adams Coats.
Mr. Coats was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy Coats, one sister, Lenora Bolton, three brothers, Pete, Fred, and Jeffrey Coats.
Survivors include three sons, Darryl Coats, Brian Coats (Tina), Chris Coats (Deana); one sister, Dorothy Davis; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Coats was a brick mason, after which he became employed at Steelcase where he retired. He enjoyed knife collecting and working in his vegetable garden, which mostly included tomatoes.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
