Alexander Maximilian Paez

Alexander Maximilian Paez, 48, of Miami, Florida, passed away on June 1, 2026.

Born in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, Alexander was the beloved son of Rodolfo and Carmen Paez and the youngest brother of Stephen, Carmen, and Omar. Throughout his life, Alex was known for his compassion, kindness, and selflessness - qualities that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Alex possessed a rare and profound love for all living things. Whether caring for a small plant, nurturing an injured animal, or marveling at the majesty of a rhinoceros, he approached every living being with respect, wonder, and love. His passion for nature was not simply a career; it was his calling.

He served as a PROS Stewardship Manager for Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, where he helped cultivate and beautify treasured community parks, including Chapman Field Park, Indian Hammocks Park, and Tropical Park. Through his work, Alex inspired countless people to appreciate and protect the natural world, generously sharing his extensive knowledge of wildlife, ecosystems, and environmental stewardship.

Alex was also a dedicated supporter of the WOW Center, where he contributed to animal education presentations and helped advance the community garden initiative. Prior to his work in parks, he spent many years as a respected zookeeper at Zoo Miami. Among his many contributions there, he was especially known for the devoted care he provided to Toshi, a critically endangered black rhinoceros, remaining by his side with unwavering dedication until Toshi's final moments.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and community involvement, Alex's greatest joy was his family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with his loved ones, whether enjoying a day at the beach, exploring the Everglades, or simply creating memories together. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit made every gathering brighter.

Alex was also deeply passionate about music, especially reggae. He embraced the teachings and message of Bob Marley, striving to live a life rooted in love, unity, and service to others. One quote that reflected the way Alex lived his life was: "Live for yourself and you will live in vain; live for others, and you will live again."

Alex is survived by his loving wife, Magaly, and his children, Camila, Nicolas, and Diego; his siblings, Stephen, Carmen, and Omar; his precious dog, Cosita, and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Though his loss leaves an immeasurable void, Alex's legacy lives on in the parks he nurtured, the animals he cared for, the people he inspired, and the family he loved so deeply.

May Alex's memory forever live in the hearts of all who knew him, and may his legacy continue to grow through acts of kindness, compassion, and love. As he often demonstrated through his own life: love thy neighbor.
