Arlene Rushin of Southport, NC died August 19, 2026, in care of hospice.

Arlene was born in Nanticoke, PA to Raymond and Stella Mungetski on October 22, 1938. She graduated in 1956 from Newport Township High School in PA & Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY in 1959.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Andrew (Budd) Rushin. She moved with her husband to Quantico and Camp Lejeune where he was stationed in the Marine Corps. After his time in the service they moved to Charlotte, NC where Arlene attended UNC Charlotte and obtained her BS in Nursing. Later they moved to Richmond, VA. She worked in various nursing positions during her nursing career in both cities before she and her husband retired to Southport, NC. They both enjoyed the beach, golf and all the other activities of retired life.

She was active in many volunteer organizations such as New Hope Clinic, a free clinic for the indigent, Brunswick County Nursing Advisory Committee, a committee who reviews care for the residents in the nursing homes for the county, and she was also a member of the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).

Arlene is now married to C. Wayne Carr. Wayne is originally from WV and after completing a tour in the Navy he moved to Kensington, MD where he worked most of his life. On retiring, he moved to Southport. Wayne & Arlene met while playing golf and married in 2008.

A mass intention will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Oct 2, 2026, at 12:00 pm.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nanticoke, PA where a graveside service will be held.
