She graduated from Connersville High School in 1952 and later earned an Associate’s in Accounting from Vincennes University. Her career reflected both determination and growth. Barbara began as a keypunch operator and went on to serve in many positions within the U.S. Army’s Finance Center Division and the Defense Information School, ultimately becoming an Accounting Instructor for military personnel. Through her work, she traveled to Germany and across Europe. After retiring from government service in 1995, she embraced travel for leisure with family and friends, enjoying cruises, road trips, and journeys across the United States and abroad.
Barbara was a member of Eastern Star Church from 1982 until her death and served in the Senior Saints Ministry. A God-fearing Christian woman, she was also known as a fun-loving life of the party who met no strangers. She was witty, generous, a good public speaker, and a community leader. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and instilled many values into her family.
Her many interests brought color and energy to those around her. She enjoyed gardening and was a founder of the Ft Ben Blossoms Club. She loved live music, reading, puzzles, taking pictures, sports, game shows, and sharing the arts and history with her children and family.
