Barbara VerStrat/Gilbert, from Dorr, lost her battle with dementia June 27, 2026 at her daughter and son-in-law's home.
Born December 18, 1939 in Grand Rapids, MI to parents Christian and Mary Schmitt. She was married to George Gilbert and David VerStrat.
Barbara took pride in all she did. Her passion was dancing, leading her to be a dance instructor at Arthur Murray in Grand Rapids. She worked at Porks Grocery store and Bunker Hill in Burnips, Second Chance in Bellaire, MI - which were a few of her jobs.
She loved to fish, hunt, and garden; she loved life and adventure.
Barbara is survived by her children Debra and Morgan Perry, and George Gilbert. She is also survived by sister, Christy Tharp; five grandchildren Amanda and Jesse (Jennifer) Perry, Ricky, James, and Vanessa Gilbert; 14 grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
