Betty Lou Carter was born January 6, 1935, in Oil Springs, Oklahoma, to Carmack Dause and Odra (Dotson) Dause. Over the next 91 years, Betty built a life around the things she valued most: her faith, her family, caring for others, and enjoying the simple things that made her happy.
She married Felix Carter in 1953, beginning a life together that would grow to include two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many years of memories. Betty was, at her heart, a family woman. Being a mother and grandmother was not simply a part of her life; it was one of the things she loved most about it.
For 60 years, Oakridge Baptist Church in Tulsa was an important part of Betty’s life. Six decades in one church brought familiar faces, friendships, and many seasons of life. Her faith remained a steady presence throughout the years.
Betty worked in food service for Marriott for many years. Outside of work, she enjoyed baking and especially loved the time she spent with her family. Some of her happiest moments were simply being Mom and Grandma, surrounded by the people who meant the most to her. Betty also enjoyed watching bull riding and was always happy to settle in and catch a good ride. It was one of her favorite things to watch and something she enjoyed throughout the years.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Felix Carter; her parents, Carmack and Odra Dause; and siblings, Aaron Dotson, Geneva Chaudoin, and Jimmie Ann Anderson.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Carter and Clifton Carter; her sisters, Stella Saville and Carrie Fitzgerald; five grandchildren, Cheyenne, Hunter, Hanna, Jordan, and Jerrod; and seven great-grandchildren, Ivory, Stetson, Gavin, Keaton, Vanessa, Taelyr, and Morgan. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends.
Betty leaves behind 91 years of memories and a family who will continue telling her stories, remembering the things she loved, and carrying those memories with them in the years ahead.
