Beverly Powell Kubina

Beverly Powell Kubina, age 69 of Semmes, Alabama passed away peacefully to meet her Lord on a sunny Sunday morning July 19, 2026 with husband Gary and Aunt Annette by her side.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 39 years, Gary Kubina, brother, Jeff Powell (Dianne), niece Makenna Powell, nephews, Michael Powell (Victoria), Matthew Powell, and Scott Kubina, brothers-in-law Jimmy Kubina (Sue) and Ron Kubina (Randi), and many cousins and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Rachel Powell, brother, Rodney Powell, father-in-law and mother-in-law Victor and Ella Kubina, nephew James L. Kubina, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

For the past 7 years Beverly battled non-alcoholic liver disease and then 3 years ago, breast cancer. She won the cancer battle, but the chemotherapy affected her already diseased liver requiring the need for around-the-clock care. Beverly maintained her grace and dignity and was able, at times, to find humor during difficult challenges. During those 7 years Beverly hung on to her faith with both hands and never let go.

Beverly grew up in Cantonment, Florida and attended Tate High School (Beta club, Math club, Mu Alpha Theta). She got her B.S. degree from Troy University in Secondary Education Mathematics (Honor Society), which she earned her four-year degree in just three years. While teaching, she earned her master’s degree at the University of South Alabama. For most of her career, she taught math at Lott (Citronelle Middle School). She was recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Most Outstanding Educators receiving the Education’s Unsung Heroes Award. She was awarded teacher of the year 3 times, all at the same school. For 26 years, Beverly stood at the front of the classroom, impacting thousands of lives, one student, one lesson, one conversation at a time. Her students are now doctors, lawyers, nurses, engineers, parents and teachers themselves. Beverly always prayed for her students and hoped that she was a positive influence.

For many years the middle school and high school were on the same campus and that is where she met Gary. They began as friends and fell in love. The two became inseparable.

The couple married on July 4, 1987, at Zion Lutheran Church in Silverhill, Alabama. They attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mobile for about 40 years. They lived most of their years together in Mobile moving to Semmes 11 years ago.

After retiring, Beverly had several math related jobs, including working for Classroom Products Warehouse for 10 years with Gary. They travelled to about 25 states doing math workshops and demonstrating hands-on math equipment. She also worked with elementary students in Baldwin County and prepared high school students for the graduation exam.

Beverly’s faith was of utmost importance to her. The couple attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She loved her church family. Beverly prayed daily that all of her family and friends would know Christ. She was a member of the teacher sorority ADK. She loved the camaraderie and the altruistic each month.

Beverly shared her faith, not only with words, but with actions and with love.

A Memorial Celebration of Beverly's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m at Radney Funeral Home-Saraland, 1200 Industrial Pkwy., Saraland, AL with a memorial service in the funeral home chapel beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Beverly has been saved by the blood of Jesus on the cross. She has her eternal home in heaven. Over the past seven years here on Earth, Beverly’s life has been saved by blood donations more than once. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood and/or a monetary contribution to the Red Cross in memory of Beverly.
