Carl L. Yates

Carl L. Yates, age 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on August 14, 2026, after a courageous battle through multiple health issues.

Carl was born on August 21, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Gola and Katie Yates. He grew up in Louisville and graduated from Shawnee High School.

Carl married Judith Yates on June 12, 1965. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2024.

Carl served his country in the Army National Guard prior to embarking on a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. He was proud to serve the Louisville Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for a combined 54 years.

Outside of work, Carl enjoyed boating on the Ohio River, playing golf, and spending time with his family. He especially loved camping with friends and cheering on University of Louisville athletics.

Carl is survived by his sons, Tyler (Jodi), Kirk (Joni), and Brock (Erin); grandchildren Madison, Dylan, Sydney, Lucas, and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Judith; his parents, Gola and Katie Yates; his siblings, Bud, Louise, Gene, and Bill; and his niece, Kim.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady & Sons, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, Kentucky.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Buechel Park Baptist Church, 2403 Hikes Lane, Louisville, Kentucky, where Carl was a longtime faithful member.
