Carl Zajac, 87, born June 3, 1939, in Poland, died September 28, 2026. A man of steady courage and quiet strength, Carl lived with a deep sense of duty—meeting each season of life with honest purpose, tireless work ethic, and a selfless devotion to those he loved. He was, in every sense, cherished by his family and all who had the privilege to know him.
After serving proudly in the United States Air Force, Carl continued to protect and serve the country and community he loved as a police officer with the NYPD. Continuing his devotion to his faith and community, Carl was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus. In retirement, his industrious hands and steadfast determination found new expression as a skilled carpenter, operating his own home improvement company for 40 years—work marked by care, integrity, and pride in doing things the right way.
Carl was the beloved husband of the late Carol Zajac (nee Maciora) for almost 50 years. He was a loving father of Edward and his wife Christine, Stephen and his wife Maria, Jennifer Cruz and her husband Joseph, and Christine White and her husband Anthony. He was the cherished grandfather of Edward Jr., Krystyna, Matthew, Daniella, Lauren, Stephanie, Julia, Joseph, Jenna, Jordyn, Isabella, Parker, and Easton, and the adoring great grandfather of Grace, Ella, and Nicholas. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, especially Kenneth Maciora, whose close proximity to the family home growing up made his presence within the household like that of a fifth child. In his later years, Carl found deep friendship and companionship with Barbara Gould. Their deep connection made stronger through a shared faith, the pair could often be found attending Mass together.
A man who built with both skill and heart, Carl’s passion for woodworking led him to become proficient with scroll sawing, creating countless pieces shaped by intricate curves, tight corners, and fine details—patient work that reflected the steadiness of his character. He also played the clarinet and the saxophone. As a young adult he joined a polka band turning his love of music into the simple, enduring joy of making it. A man who truly cherished life and embraced his new country, always made sure to hold steady and pass down his Polish traditions.
