Carla Mae Kruger

Carla M. Kruger, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 28, 1939, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Carl and Leona Rinehart. Carla graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a proud member of the Class of ’57. In April 1959, she married the love of her life, Gary, beginning what would become a 61-year-long marriage filled with love and cherished memories. Carla built a long and rewarding career as a secretary at the John Deere Administration Center in East Moline, Illinois. She retired in 1993 after 15 years of dedicated service, and moved to Palestine, Texas to escape winter and be closer to much of her family. Family and friends were at the heart of Carla’s life. As a young adult, she inspired others by teaching her love of dance and enjoyed the simple pleasures of being surrounded by good company. Later in life, she and Gary shared many days watching NASCAR races and the Fighting Illini together. After dinner, Carla could almost always be found watching Wheel of Fortune—a familiar and comforting part of her daily routine. Carla will be lovingly remembered by her son, Matt, and his spouse, Steve Riley; her grandchildren, Christian Kruger and Julie Kruger; her brother, Rich Rinehart, and his wife, Barb; her brother, Ronald Rinehart; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary; her parents, Carl and Leona Rinehart; and her siblings Roseanne Bietzel, Edward Rinehart, Mary Sue Briar, and Francis Rinehart. Those who knew Carla will remember her for her love of family, her friendships, her warm presence, and the many everyday moments that made her life special. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at Reunion Court of Clear Lake, who provided Carla with wonderful care, kindness, and compassion during the last two years of her life.
