Chief Robert W. Roe

Chief Robert W. Roe, 52, of Haughton, Louisiana, passed away on August 21, 2026. Born December 1, 1973, Robert lived a life marked by steady leadership, deep compassion, and a quiet faith that guided his days and strengthened those around him.

Robert started as a junior firefighter in 1991, climbed the ranks, and served as Fire Chief of Bossier Parish District #1, a role he carried with dignity and devotion. In the work of protecting others, he was known not only as a leader, but as a mentor—someone who did not need many words to make an impact, because when he spoke, it mattered. His example—consistent, thoughtful, and grounded—will remain a lasting part of the department he loved and the people he helped shape.

Over a career spanning more than two decades, Robert established himself as a dedicated leader in emergency services. Becoming a paramedic in 1999, he maintained national EMS registration alongside multiple specialized certifications. His distinguished service was recognized through several major honors, including 1993 and 1995 Firefighter of the Year, Firefighter of the Decade (2000–2010), and an ESGR Patriotic Employer designation. Alongside his operational leadership—serving as an instructor and deploying during major federal disaster responses in 2016 and 2023—he advanced his education with a bachelor’s degree in business administration (with honors) in 2008. Deeply committed to professional advocacy, Robert served as President of the Louisiana Fire Chiefs’ Association in 2018 and is a lifetime member of the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association.

Beyond his service, Robert found joy in simple and meaningful things: working puzzles, being outdoors, enjoying history, and sharing dad jokes. He also loved Disney, and he carried an appreciation for the everyday moments that bring families closer. Above all, he treasured his family and his fire department family, holding both with the same steadfast loyalty and care.

Robert is survived by his father, William Roe; his wife, Gwenda Roe; son, Michael Roe and wife Makenzi; son, Cody Roe; daughter, Callie Roe; and nieces, Elizabeth Atnip and Alaina Atnip.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Constance "Connie" Roe, and his sister, Rochelle “Shelly” Roe.
