Christopher Joseph Wasz, 58, passed away on July 17, 2026, at WakeMed Center for Community Health in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Chris was born on April 15, 1968, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, as the beloved son of Joseph S. and Cecelia (Grisaffi) Wasz. He was the second of the couple’s three children.
Chris began school in Palatine, Illinois, where he lived until his sophomore year of high school when the family relocated to Warsaw, Indiana. He attended Warsaw Community High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly baseball, a sport he enjoyed playing for many years. In addition to athletics, Chris served on the school newspaper staff and was a cheerleader for the senior class Powder Puff football game during Homecoming. Classmates remembered him for his warm smile and upbeat personality. Following his graduation with the Class of 1986, Chris attended Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance in 1990 and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
A lifelong Indiana University and Chicago Cubs fan, Chris enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had an outgoing personality and genuinely enjoyed meeting new people. He rarely knew a stranger and lived in several states, including Indiana, California, Kentucky, Florida, and North Carolina. Throughout his career, he held a variety of sales positions, including medical supplies and equipment sales, and most recently worked in automotive finance with dealerships in the Cary, North Carolina, area.
Of all the roles Chris held throughout his life, being a father was the one he treasured most. His daughter, Brooke, was his greatest source of pride, and becoming a grandfather filled him with unmistakable joy. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with his granddaughter, Oakley, and looked forward with great excitement to welcoming his second granddaughter in January.
