Claire Brierley Wells

Claire Brierley Wells, age 86, of Macon, GA, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.She was born in North Augusta, SC. After graduating from Columbia College, Claire pursued a gratifying career as an elementary school teacher, earned a Master’s Degree in Education at Mercer University along with completing a six-year degree program at Georgia College and State University, and retired from the Bibb County School System in 2000.Claire married John A. Wells and together they shared 64 adventurous and fulfilling years of marriage.Claire along with John enjoyed cooking, hosting, and entertaining frequently at their houses in Macon and on Tybee Island, GA. She had a love for dogs and even rescued two that became family members. In past years, she was a board member of the Middle Georgia Youth Ballet, and in recent years, Claire was an active member of the Brickyard Ladies Book Club. She will be missed for her thoughtfulness, passion for teaching, and being a role model to others.Claire is survived by her husband John, her 3 sons, her 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.A memorial service/celebration of life will be arranged for a future time, so that family and friends can attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Nutcracker of Middle Georgia, or Imagination Library.
