Cornelia "Connie" Nederveld

Cornelia (Connie) Nederveld was born Cornelia Van Der Hyde on July 15, 1928.Her family called her “Corn”. She was raised with 9 siblings on a farm near Luctor, Kansas and grew up in a farmhouse she says was only held together by wallpaper.She moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan after a year of attending a local business school and worked as a secretary. It was in Grand Rapids that she met the love of her life, Roger. She only had a couple of dates with him before she had to return home to Kansas to care for her mother. They kept in touch by writing letters before Roger, who had decided that she was the girl for him, traveled all the way to Kansas to see her. After her mother passed away, Connie returned to Grand Rapids where the love between Connie and Roger grew and they were married on March 29, 1951.Connie and Roger Nederveld raised four children in Grand Rapids, Michigan and made frequent trips back to Kansas. Connie had a great love for her extended family and they kept in touch through the “Round Robin”, a letter that made the rounds to all the relatives where each family added their news.Roger retired from 30 years as a letter carrier in 1983 and they made the move to Colorado and settled in Longmont. They attended Pleasant Valley Christian Reformed Church and later attended Grace Evangelical Free Church. Connie was very active in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for over 30 years and was a BSF leader for many years.After Roger passed away in 2010, Connie made the move to Clermont Park Senior Living Community in 2013 and attended Hope Fellowship Community Reformed Church. She continued to be a Bible Study Fellowship leader until last year when she couldn’t hear well enough. She was known for her counted cross stitch and her knitting of hats for the unhoused. She was a voracious reader and loved faith-based historical fiction. She was an accomplished seamstress for many years and taught sewing for 4-H while living in Michigan. She loved singing and sang for decades in choirs and trios (including one with her sisters). Above all, she loved studying the Bible and her faith was of the utmost importance to her. She completed a counted cross stitch picture which said “What is my only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but belong - body and soul, in life and in death - to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ”.Survivors include her children: Jon and wife Diane, Buckeye, AZ, Lois and husband Ric, Trinidad, CO, Donna and husband Gary, Colorado Springs, CO and Sue, Colorado Springs, CO; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
