David A. Ayon, Sr.

David Anthony Ayon, Sr., beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his family, on May 30, 2026.

David Anthony Ayon, Sr. was born on December 16, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas to Stella R. Ayon and Henry Ayon, Sr. David married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Alice Teveni, in 1983 and had a marriage filled with love and joy. David celebrated his 43rd wedding anniversary with Mary Alice on May 21, 2026. Together, David and Mary Alice raised two beautiful children and enjoyed sharing moments with their five grandchildren.

David attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and was a graduate of Holy Cross High school. He attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where he graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Political Science. David graduated from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas and was licensed to practice as an attorney in 1981. David was further licensed in the United States District Court and 5th Circuit Court. He was a longtime member of the San Antonio Bar Association and Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He had a thriving and successful career and practice which he enjoyed for 45 years until he passed. He was proud to share his love for the law and practice with his daughter for the past 12 years.

A loving husband, devoted father, brother, cousin, and friend, with many talents and gifts. David enjoyed many hobbies, including playing guitar, painting, baking, camping, and opera. He loved many genres of music and especially enjoyed playing his left-handed guitar. Over the years, he performed with several groups for fun, including the band Phlash Back in his teens and later Mission Drive, which included his talented children. He shared his love for music as the president of the Lyric Opera of San Antonio and a board member of the San Antonio Boys’ Choir. A devoted Catholic, he shared his music by playing and singing at Sunday Mass at the Oblate Lourdes Grotto. As a self-taught watercolor artist, he took joy in sharing his work and learning new techniques. He was also known for his baking, with family members looking forward each year to his birthday cakes and midnight miracle biscuits. David also cherished primitive camping trips, first as a scoutmaster and then as a bond with his son. David and his wife were generous philanthropists who supported several organizations, including University Health System, St. Jude Children’s, Meals on Wheels and a Veteran’s organization.

David was preceded in death by his father Henry Ayon, Sr.; mother, Stella Ayon; grand-parents Manuel and Arnulfa Rendon; his mother and father –in-law Candelaria and Salvador Teveni; his brother-in-law and best friend Ramon Teveni, and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice; his brother, Henry Ayon; son, David Anthony Ayon, II (Sarah) of San Antonio, TX; daughter Marisa Elyse Ayon-Gordon (Chirstopher) of San Antonio, TX; and grandchildren Eva, Ophelia, Solomon, Sabrina, and Ophira. David is also survived by his extended family of uncle (Rudy Rendon), cousins, and a wide circle of friends that he loved dearly.

Viewing will be held on June 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary at 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, Texas with Rosary to follow at 7:00p.m.

Mass will be held on June 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Procession to depart from Porter Loring Mortuary at 9:30 a.m.
