Doug Lightfoot

Died in his 97th year; predeceased by his parents Herbert and Doris (nee Johnson), and brother Ed.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, companion in life of 65 years, Anne (nee Nourse), children: Steven (Alison) of Kanata, Brian of Baie d’Urfe; grandchildren: Victoria (Tori) and Grace; Sister-in-law, Nancy of Mississauga, niece and nephews, as well as an extended family in British Columbia and the Kansas City area.

Will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and extended family of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Born and raised in Vancouver, Doug attended UBC, made his way east in the early ‘50s. Doug was a passionate engineer. He worked non-stop since retirement, publishing papers on energy and climate science until his final day. He starred in his own film available on YouTube: Nobody’s Fuel – an engineer’s guide to saving the planet.

Doug was a retired member of Order of Engineers of Quebec (OIQ), member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (APEO), Life member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and a member of the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers. The latter part of his career was spent at the Domtar Research Centre.

Doug was a Presbyterian church elder for over 50 years. He was a Commissioner on the Lakeshore School Board. He was active as a Town of Baie d’Urfe volunteer, serving on many committees over the years. He was also an avid gardener, wine maker, and bee keeper.

Memorial celebration to be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 70 Beaconsfield Blvd, Beaconsfield, Quebec, H9W 3Z3 – Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at 2 p.m. with reception following.

A memorial donation made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Homes would be greatly appreciated.
