Douglas "Doug" Farrell Miles

September 27, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Douglas "Doug" Miles, 79, of Prairieville, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. He was born on April 23, 1947, in Pulaski, Tennessee, and moved to Louisiana during his teenage years. At just 17 years old, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for four years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, Doug began a remarkable 44-year career as a conductor with the Union Pacific Railroad. It was during one of his stops in Melville, Louisiana, that he met Suzanne, the woman who would become his wife of 55 cherished years. Together, they made their home in Galvez, where they raised their five children and built a life filled with love and lasting memories.

Doug was a dedicated family man who gave generously of his time to others. For many years, he coached football and baseball, mentoring countless young boys, including his own three sons. He enjoyed football, classic cars, reruns of Andy Griffith, any kind of dessert, gardening, and working in his yard. He spent countless afternoons roaming around Lowe’s, always on the lookout for another plant to bring home. A naturally gifted handyman, he could take just about anything apart, figure out how it worked, and put it back together again. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix.

Doug was known for his honesty and straightforward nature—he never hesitated to tell you exactly what he thought. Yet behind that blunt honesty was a kind heart, a great sense of humor, a generous spirit, and a profound love for his family.

He attended Istrouma Baptist Church in Prairieville, Louisiana.

Doug is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Suzanne Brocato Miles; his sons, Brandon Miles (Kristen) and Jeffrey Miles; his daughters, Bonnie O’Daniel (Shane) and Toni Logarbo; and his 12 cherished grandchildren, Zach, Andy, Mikey, Jesse, Jack, Caden, Toby, Kara, Bentley, Bradey, Weston, and Reid. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Benjamin “Benny” Miles, and great-grandson, Keaton James.

Doug’s family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to his daughter-in-law, Catherine “Caullie” Miles, whose love, friendship, and unwavering care brought him comfort and companionship throughout his final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Doug will be laid to rest at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Miles, Andrew Miles, Caden Miles, Zachary Miles, Jesse Logarbo Jr., and Shane O’Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Miles, Weston O’Daniel, and Jack Logarbo.

Following burial, family and friends are invited to return to Ourso Funeral Home to share a meal and memories.
