Elaine Phelps

Elaine Brittain Phelps, 83, of Bolivia passed away Monday, May 4, 2026 at SECU Hospice in Bolivia.Mrs. Phelps was born March 24, 1943, in New Hanover County, daughter of the late Floyd T. Brittain and Odessa Mercer Brittain. Early in her career, she worked at Mintz Chevrolet for 26 years until she transitioned to Brunswick County Schools in the Finance Department where she worked until her retirement. Mrs. Phelps loved shopping, sewing, and taking trips to the mountains. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she worked in the church library. In her later years, her biggest passion was loving on her great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Chad Phelps and two brothers, Hubert Keith Brittain and David Earl Brittain.Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Phelps of Bolivia; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Phelps of Shallotte; two grandchildren, Kristin Phelps and Megan Jones; ten great grandchildren, Ayden, Justus, Issak, Ty, Easten, Nick, Oaklen, Ethan, Eli, and Demaryius; nieces, Meleta Humbert and husband Glenn, Geraldine Elliott, and Linda Chadwick and husband Chad; and nephews, Alan Brittain and wife Cindy, and David Brittain and wife Marie.
