Erin Rebecca Garrigan

April 28, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Erin Garrigan, a teacher of children, a reader of books and a peaceful soul with an impish smile, died suddenly at her home on Tuesday, April 28. She was 47 years old.

In addition to her life's vocation in teaching, she was a salesperson at Talbot's since her college days. She steered children through her career in education, then matched customers to the right clothes at Talbot's, primarily the Laurelwood store, followed by her transfer to the Saddle Creek location.

Born in Memphis, she was a childhood dancer and a high school soccer player. Erin graduated from Ridgeway High School and Christian Brothers University before teaching at several schools from the Catholic Diocese to Shelby and DeSoto counties. That included her final stop at Walls Elementary where she taught third graders, a testament to her joy in working with young children.

Her laughter and ability to easily engage with people served her well in both professions. The ties to Talbot's easily contributed to her reputation as a "clothes horse".

Erin was happy, thoughtful, kind and full of life. She enjoyed reading, traveling and movies, but also cherished the time spent doting over her nephews, Frank and James.

She leaves her parents Rita and Joe Garrigan of Olive Branch, a sister, Amanda Burhart (Frank), and a brother, Joseph F. Garrigan III, both of Memphis. Additionally, she will be missed by her nephews – Frank and James Burhart. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents – Nita and Albert Vines – and her paternal grandparents -- Becky and Joe Garrigan.

Her smile and her laughter will be missed by family and friends, but the memories will always keep Erin in their hearts.
