Françoise Marie Thérèse (Cheyrou-Lagrèze) Murphy

Françoise Marie Thérèse (Cheyrou-Lagrèze) Murphy, age 95, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 24, 2026, at Cypress Pointe Health Campus in Englewood, Ohio. Born on July 13, 1930, in Perigueux, France, she lived a remarkable life marked by courage, perseverance, faith, and love. Françoise was the daughter of the late Dr. Henri and Hélène (Hache) Cheyrou-Lagrèze.

Françoise was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Richard “Jim” Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Yves Cheyrou-Lagrèze, Jean Paul Cheyrou-Lagrèze, Anne Heineke and Nicole King.

Françoise devoted herself to her family and community. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, where her compassion and gentle spirit touched many lives before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, nature walks and family get-togethers.

Françoise is survived by her brother, Gérard Cheyrou-Lagrèze, of Bueil, France, her sister-in-law, Patricia Durr of South Carolina and her loving children, Ellen (John) Spinks of Clayton, Ohio, Leslie (Jim) Blankenship of Lewisburg, Ohio, Monique (Frank) Mijares of California and Philip Murphy and Kelli Hargrave of Texas. Grandchildren include Ryan (Jessica) McClanahan, Ben Spinks, Jennifer Garren, Derek Cain, Melissa (Lynnie) Butler, Francois Mijares, Mitchell Vierya along with nine great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Françoise’s life will be held by the immediate family at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 131 East 4th Street, Greenville, Ohio.
