George Angelos Lampus

September 21, 2026 Kirkland, Quebec Dignity Memorial

George Angelos Lampus, 77, passed away from natural causes on September 21, 2026.A native Portlander, George was the eldest son of Angelos and Helen (Maletis) Lampus. He attended Sabin Grade School, graduated from Grant High School in 1967, and earned his bachelors degree in marketing from Portland State University in 1971.After graduating, George held various management positions at Lampus Lifestyles Furniture, the family business. In 1984, he began a career in commercial real estate that would span the rest of his life. With his brothers, he also owned and developed commercial real estate projects throughout Portland, including the former Nike Community Store on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., built on the site of the familys retail business, as well as developments on Hayden Island and in the Gateway District. But a résumé hardly tells the story of George.George was immensely proud of being Greek American and of growing up in a big, lively Greek family in Portland. And no one could tell those stories quite like George. He was a born raconteur who could turn a childhood memory, a day working in the family furniture store, or an ordinary encounter into a story worth hearingnd, usually, worth hearing again. George never let brevity get in the way of a good story. He loved people, conversation and a good table. He spent countless hours over the years with friends at Jake9;s, where there was always another story to tell and seemingly never any particular reason to hurry home. At his own table, George was famous for his grilled lamb chops. They were legendary among family and friends, and George was very happy to tell you exactly why his were better than anyone else;s.Then there were the cars. George loved fast cars, and Ferraris most of all. Even better than driving them was sharing that passion with the younger generation. His nephews, cousins and friendshildren knew that time with George might include a story, a lamb chop and, if they were lucky, a ride in a very fast car. He delighted in introducing them to the things he loved.George was larger than life true original, fiercely devoted to his family and friends, generous with his time, his table, his stories and his opinions. To know George was to have a George story of your own. There will never be another quite like him, and the world feels a little quieter without him in it.George is survived by his brother, Jim; his niece, Julia; and his nephews, John and Evan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean.
