Gertrude "Trudy" Shenesey Patrick

September 8, 2026 Kirkland, Quebec Dignity Memorial

Gertrude "Trudy" Shenesey Patrick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, public servant, gardener, and faithful Christian, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, at the age of 97.

Born on July 12, 1929, in Port Arthur, Texas, Trudy lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and a deep love for learning. For much of her life she was a resident of Whistler, Alabama, where she became a cherished member of the community and a faithful member of Whistler United Methodist Church.

Trudy shared a remarkable love story with her husband, Kenneth Leon Patrick, whom she married on July 17, 1948. Together they built a life grounded in faith, devotion, and family. Kenneth preceded her in death on May 18, 2016.

A lifelong believer in the value of education, Trudy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Mobile in 1970. She later taught science at Chickasaw Academy, where she inspired and encouraged generations of students. Following her teaching career, she served Mobile County as a Child Support Enforcement Investigator with the court system until her retirement, helping families and children throughout the county.

Trudy was also a Master Gardener whose gardens reflected her patience, creativity, and appreciation for God's creation. She and Kenneth enjoyed many happy years at their home in Orange Beach, Alabama, where she became a respected leader within the community. She served for many years on the Board of Directors of the East Orange Beach Property Owners' Association, dedicating her time and talents to the betterment of the community she loved.

Above all else, Trudy's greatest joy was her family. She was the steady center of several generations, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her strength, kindness, intelligence, and unwavering faith shaped the lives of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Leon Patrick; her infant daughter, Faith Patrick; her parents, Gertrude Smith Shenesey and Matthew John Shenesey; and her brother, Matthew James Shenesey.

She is survived by her sons, Michael K. Patrick (Jennifer), and Patrick H. Patrick (Leslie); four grandchildren, Lori Gowin (Matthew), Matt Patrick (Alison), Miles Patrick, and James Kenneth Patrick; five great-grandchildren, Patrick Gowin, Michael Gowin, Shane Patrick, Presley Patrick, and William Patrick; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.

Trudy will be remembered for her gracious spirit, quiet strength, keen intellect, generous heart, and steadfast faith. Whether tending a garden, teaching a child, serving her community, or gathering with family, she approached life with purpose, humility, and love. Her legacy endures in the family she nurtured, the students she taught, the communities she served, and the many lives she touched throughout her nearly century-long journey.
