Gilles Hamel passed away at the age of 84 years and 8 months on 8 May 2026 at the CHSLD Centre d'hébergement St-François, Chicoutimi. He was the husband of Suzanne Beaulieu and lived in Chicoutimi. He was the son of the late Thérèse Richard and Gaston Hamel. The family hosted friends and family at the Complexe funéraire Chicoutimi for the visitation. Gilles was left to mourn by his spouse, children Marie-Josée Hamel and Jean Hamel (France Labrie), and the children of his wife: Marc-André Laberge (Manon Gagné and their daughter Laurie), Rémi-Martin Laberge (Stéphanie Lussier). His grandchildren Isaac, Léonie, Madelyne, Kaleb, William, and Lily also mourn him. He was the brother of Nicole Hamel (Michel Jutras), the late Jocelyne, Ginette (Garry), and the brother-in-law of Bertrand Beaulieu (Danielle Brassard), Claude (Mariette Tremblay), Christian (Claude Cyr). Gilles was also mourned by many nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. The family thanks the staff of CHSLD St-François for their care. A donation to the Alzheimer Society Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is proposed in his memory.
