Gordon Maurice Newell

September 24, 2026 Dignity Memorial

Gordon Newell, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and a truly special soul, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the age of 55.

Gordon was the firstborn son of Enez and Ralph Newell, and from the very beginning, everyone knew there was something extraordinary about him. Gordon was the heart and soul of his family—a bright light whose presence could fill a room and whose personality could never be forgotten.

Gordon believed birthdays were very special, and, naturally, his birthday was the most special of all. In Gordon’s world, his birthday was practically a national holiday. Every year, he insisted on a big celebration surrounded by the people he loved. He wanted his friends and family together, because Gordon understood something beautiful about life: it was meant to be celebrated.

Gordon never met a stranger. He could talk to anyone, anywhere, and somehow make them feel like they had known him forever. He was the life of every party, always ready to dance, laugh, perform, and entertain. For Gordon, life had no limits. He was raised by a family who taught him that he was just like everyone else—only a little special. Gordon, however, had no problem believing he was a SUPERSTAR.

And in his own way, he truly was.

One of Gordon’s biggest dreams was to appear on American Idol, of course, because he was hoping to meet his future wife, Paula Abdul. Gordon could dance like Michael Jackson, shake his hips like Elvis, and perform with the confidence of someone born for the spotlight. He was a performer from the moment he entered this world, and his family will forever treasure the memories of his dancing, singing, laughter, and unforgettable personality.

But beyond all of his special talents, Gordon possessed a gift far greater than any performance: a heart of pure gold.

Gordon loved the Lord and shared his faith in his own unmistakable way. He loved telling people about how great God was and believed deeply in God’s ability to move in miraculous ways. Though Gordon faced challenges throughout his life, he never allowed those challenges to take away his faith or his joy. He believed in the power of Christ and carried that belief proudly wherever he went. He was the loudest voice in the Sunday chorus and proudly wore his cross as a symbol of his love for God.

Gordon was a devoted brother and a cherished member of his family. He was a loving big brother to Darin and Keisha and a kind and caring little brother to Rose, Kay, Laureen, and Ralph. He leaves behind countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones whose lives were made brighter simply because Gordon was part of them.

Above all, Gordon was deeply loved by his mother, Enez, who stood faithfully by his side for 55 years—caring for him, protecting him, encouraging him, and loving him with an unconditional love that words cannot fully describe. Their bond was one of the greatest examples of love in Gordon’s life.

Gordon’s life was special. He was cared for, protected, celebrated, and, most importantly, loved.

Although Gordon has left this earthly life, his memory will never leave those who knew him. The laughter he shared, the joy he brought, the music he sang, the dances he performed, the faith he proclaimed, and the love he gave will continue to live on through the generations.

Gordon Newell was one of a kind. He was a true original, a beloved son, a treasured brother, a devoted family member, and a friend to anyone he met.

His life was a gift. His love was unforgettable. His light will never go out.

Rest peacefully, Gordon. Keep dancing, keep singing, and keep shining like the SUPERSTAR you always knew you were.

You will be deeply, deeply missed—but you will never, ever be forgotten.
