Grace Marie Cauthen

Grace Marie Cauthen, 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away on September 23, 2026.

She was born on August 7, 1944, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Carris Wade and Thelma Kinstley Wade. Grace met her husband, Gerald, in Houston, and they were married on August 28, 1959. Together they built a life and family filled with love and devotion.

In 1980, Grace earned her Cosmetology Certification from North Harris County College. She went on to work as a hairdresser for 18 years, spending most of that time working with her best friend Joan Carey at Unlimited Hair Design, where she brought care, skill, and warmth to her clients.

Grace was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother whose life was centered on family. She cared deeply for those she loved and took great joy in being present for the people who meant the most to her. Known for her strong values and larger-than-life personality, she poured her energy into the family she was so proud of.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Carris Wade and Thelma Kinstley Wade; her brothers Carris Wade Jr. and Dale Wade; and her sister Nancy Brown.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Gerald Cauthen; her children Denise Kennedy and her husband Jim, Douglas Cauthen and his wife Tina, and Dana Chisholm and her husband David; her brothers Robert Wade and his wife Jeanie, and Jerry Wade; and her sister Betty Chambers and her husband Robert; and her sister-in-law Nancy Clayton and her husband Ronnie.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Chad Cauthen and his wife Emily, Morgan Vermylen and her husband Nathen, James Kennedy, and Haylee Thomasson and her husband Matthew; and by her great-grandchildren Adelynn Thomasson and Grant Thomasson.

Grace will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
