Harmon David Mathes

Harmon “Doodie” Mathes, age 78, of Chuckey, South Central Community, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Johnson City Medical Center.He was a member of Casi Full Gospel Church where he served as a deacon.He was a founding member of Nolichuckey Valley Vol. Fire Dept. where he was chief for 30 plus years. He retired from Washington Co. Sheriff’s Dept. after 21 years. He was a previous member of John M. Reed Foundation Board, Washington Co. Vol Fire Fighters Association, and Washington Co. 911 Board of Directors. Harmon was also employed at Moody Dunbar Inc. He was a member of Arcana Lodge #489 F & AM, Limestone #262 OES and Kerbela Shriners.He is survived by his wife: Ruth Kyker Mathes; a brother: Leo Mathes; nieces and nephews: Jeff (Becca Arwood) Mathes, Aaron (Ashton) Kyker, Beth (William) Travis, Kala (Dylan) Edwards, Sarah (James) Murzyn; great nieces and nephews: Jeremy Mathes, Sylar Malone, Tillman Travis, Cora Travis, Kasen Edwards and Theodore Murzyn.He was preceded in death by his mother and father: Silas and Helen Masters Mathes.
