Harry Pappas, 95, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on May 30, 2026 in Augusta, Georgia.

Harry was born on May 16, 1931 in Mytilene, the capital of the Greek island of Lesbos. His mother (Savoula) and father (Yiorgo) Spyrellis, a brother and a sister (all deceased). His beautiful Italian/Greek wife Lucia DiStefano Pappas, still living and married 70 years, was his cook and partner. He was a veteran military MSG (Sergeant Major) who served 30 years in the Army, stationed around the world including Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Austria. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning numerous awards including combat medals.

Harry was also a dedicated gardener, a gym enthusiast, vintage vehicle enthusiast, and a devoted member of the Augusta Greek Orthodox Church. He immigrated from Greece at age 16, served in the U.S. Army, and emigrated to the U.S. seeking a better life, proud to serve his adopted country. His life was characterized by service, family, and love of country. He is remembered fondly by his family and community.
