With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hector Fernandez, who left this earth on May 20, 2026, at the age of 77. He joins his beloved parents in our heavenly home.
Hector was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, treasured friend, and a beloved only son whose life was marked by kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family.
Hector Fernandez proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant from 1969 to 1973. A Vietnam veteran, he served as an Electrical Power Production Specialist, a critical role responsible for maintaining and operating power systems essential to military operations. During his four years of honorable service, he was stationed at Luke Air Force Base and served overseas in Vietnam.
In recognition of his dedication and professionalism, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged upon completion of his service, and his strength and patriotism remained with him throughout his life.
After his military service, Hector continued his strong work ethic and commitment to others, retiring as a plumber from BISD after 25 years of dedicated service.
He was known for giving the best hugs—the kind that made everyone feel safe, loved, and comforted. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: building model airplanes, capturing wildlife and everyday moments through photography, spending peaceful days at the beach, and fishing whenever he could. He was also a passionate sports fan who proudly cheered for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros.
Above all else, Hector loved his children deeply. His family was the center of his world, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort in the love and guidance he shared, which will remain with us always. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Hector is survived by daughters Melissa Fernandez, Melinda Fernandez, and Michelle Fernandez; son Jose Hector Fernandez; grandchildren Derrick Rodriguez, Jacob Fernandez, Danielle Graham, Aaron Ramirez, Adrian Ramirez, Fabian Sanchez, and Gabriel Sanchez; and great-grandchildren Esme, Xzavior, and Sophia.
Hector was preceded in death by his mother, Elvia Garcia Fernandez, and his father, Jose Francisco Fernandez.
