Igor Borisovich Golovaty, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Gresham, Oregon, surrounded by family and close friends, on June 28, 2026.

Known for his sharp mind, Igor had a generous heart and an irrepressible sense of humor, he brought light and laughter to every room he entered and to everyone who knew him. Educated and curious, Igor loved learning and carried that curiosity into every conversation. He was the life of the party, quick with a joke, always ready with emotional support, and the person who could make strangers feel embraced.

His generous nature showed itself in countless small and large ways; he gave time and support freely to family and friends. Igor’s devotion to his wife was a constant and beautiful part of his life. He was passionately proud of his children and grandchildren, and family gatherings were his favorite stage—full of laughter, warmth, and the kind of affection that was returned to him tenfold.

He loved people deeply, and he was loved back. After undergoing open heart surgery, Igor faced recovery with the same determination and spirit that defined his life. Through rehabilitation and sheer will, he regained his strength and made walking a daily ritual—often covering many miles each day. He continued to walk two to three times daily, finding joy and renewal in nature’s many venues and proving to everyone around him the power of resilience and optimism.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Igor remained active and engaged in athletics throughout his life and celebrated notable sporting accomplishments that reflected his dedication and spirit. An avid traveler, he delighted in exploring new places and returning home inspired. Chess was another one of his greatest passions; he was a formidable player who shared the game with many in the community, competing, and forging friendships over the board. He also adored animals—especially cats—and was cherished in return by his faithful feline companion.

Igor’s final moments were peaceful, spent at home with family and close friends at his side. He will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, his generosity, and his ability to connect with people. His presence enriched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the stories and family traditions that he helped create.
