Irene Godwin, age 96, went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 12, 2026. She was born on February 3, 1930, to the late Sedric and Rena Jones. She was born and raised in Johnston County, less than a mile from Amelia Church. She married her husband, Tom, when she was eighteen.
Her highlight in life was her family. She loved to cook, shop, and laugh with friends. She enjoyed cleaning and decorating her home. She worked in the cafeteria in her younger years and retired to be a homemaker. Even when her health declined, she cherished visiting with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Godwin. She is survived by her sons: Randy Godwin and wife, Kay; and Chris Godwin and wife, Shelly; grandchildren, Jeromy Godwin (Sheila), Kacey Thompson (Neal), Adam Godwin (Sasha), Amanda Grondalski (Graham), Christopher Godwin (Sarah); and 12 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 am at Amelia Church with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amelia Christian Church Building Fund, 1696 Amelia Church Road, Clayton, NC 27520; or online at Amelia CC.
