Isiah Johnson

Isiah Johnson was born on June 27, 1937 in Bessemer, Alabama, and later lived in Safford, AL where he attended Keith High School.

In the late 1950s, he moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he built a life and legacy. Isiah dedicated 42 years of service working at the State Docks, retiring in 1999. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He loved spending time fishing and hanging out under the trees with his friends. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and was especially known for his dressing. He loved traveling, especially going on cruises. Isiah cherished sharing stories about his childhood and had a special way of making people laugh. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Isiah Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Lizzie Johnson; his brothers, George Johnson Jr., John Johnson, and Amos Johnson Sr.; his sisters, Ella Mae Love, Elnora Hawkins, and Delores Thomas; and son-in-law, Jerome Mingo.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years Johnie Mae Johnson; two children, Joe (Evelyn) Tabb of Birmingham, AL, and Diane Mingo of Mobile, Al.; a devoted nephew, James Williams of Columbus South Carolina, devoted niece, Sarah (Leodis) Mitchell of Daphne, Al., close cousin, Abraham (Alma) Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Joe Tabb Jr., Jamarr Mingo, Adrian (Darius) Escott, Alicia (Andrew)Terry, and De’Antwain (Rhetta) Mingo, Shaquita Bethel, Brandon (LaKarla) Mitchell and Cameron Mitchell; great grands, Jakoby Mingo, Madison Tabb, Alaina Mingo, Alexis Mingo, Jalan Stanford-Tabb, Chase Mingo, Kedrick Thomas, A'leah Mingo, India Mingo, Aliyah Escott, Laila Escott, Adrin Terry, Brayla Mitchell and Draydon Mitchell; Great-great-grand, Eliana Stanford; one sister, Mary Tabb of Uniontown, AL.; three brothers Frank Johnson and Sylvester Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, Willie (Sophia) Ash of Mobile, Al., dear friends, Sandy (Roslyn) Major Jr. of Mobile, Al and Rufus (Linda) Thomas of Tuscaloosa Al. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606, on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9:00 am until the 11:00 a.m chapel service. Interment will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
