Ivan Bogdan Gillman

September 13, 2026 Dignity Memorial

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Ivan B. Gillman on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at the age of 36.

He was born in Tomsk, Russia, and came to the US as an adoptee. Here he quickly learned the language and adjusted to the American way of life, with intelligence, humor, and love.

After graduating from Pikesville High School, Ivan decided to serve his country through service in the Maryland Air National Guard.

Ivan loved sports and played soccer, baseball, and football. A natural athlete, he learned these games easily, and every coach he had noted his talent. He avidly followed the NFL and the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins). With an encyclopedic knowledge of the players and the teams, and his knowledge of how the game is played, he was a good person to watch a game with.

He most loved family vacations, especially the ones to the beach at Rehoboth. He took special delight in body-surfing the waves, and he loved the atmosphere and beach food.

A natural leader, Ivan made friends easily. He was always gentle and worked particularly well with young children.

Ivan was the beloved son of Dan Gillman and Julie Black; loving brother of Stephanie Gillman; dear nephew of Matt Gillman, Jane Gillman, David Gillman, Karen Gejdenson, Debbie Babson, and David Black; also lovingly survived by Eileen Costello and many cousins.

The family will receive friends at the Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home, 3631 Falls Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21211 on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 10:30 to 11am at which time Ivan will be celebrated at 11am.

Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed in Ivan’s memory to Paul’s Place, 1118 Ward Street, Baltimore Maryland 21230.
