Ivan D Castro

August 4, 2026 Newport, Quebec Dignity Memorial

With profound sadness and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of Ivan Dimitri Castro, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, loyal friend, proud Marine, and beloved member of his community.

Ivan was born on August 19, 1963, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, to his parents, Pierina and Pedro Castro. As the second of six children, he grew up surrounded by family before moving to the Bronx, New York, where he was raised and built the foundation of the remarkable man he would become.

Ivan proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he exemplified honor, courage, and commitment. The values he learned in service remained with him throughout his life and were reflected in the way he cared for others, faced adversity, and carried himself with quiet strength and dignity.

For 28 years, Ivan worked as a doorman on West End Avenue, where he became far more than the familiar face at the front door. He greeted everyone with warmth, kindness, and genuine care, creating lasting friendships with residents, coworkers, and neighbors alike. To so many, he wasn't just a doorman, he was family. His smile, sense of humor, and willingness to help anyone in need made him a beloved and unforgettable presence in his community.

Above all else, Ivan's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lizzette, and a proud, loving father to his child, Kendra who was the center of his world. His love was steadfast, unconditional, and evident in every sacrifice he made and every moment he shared with those he loved. Ivan also shared a special bond with his beloved grand-dog, Cooper, whose companionship brought him immense happiness. Whether they were spending quiet moments together or simply enjoying each other's company, Cooper was a treasured part of Ivan's life and family.

Ivan is also survived by his five siblings, Shirley, Rosana, Omar, Roma, and Aaron, along with a large and loving family of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and countless lifelong friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him.

Those who knew Ivan will remember his generous heart, infectious laughter, unwavering loyalty, and his extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome. He had a rare gift for bringing people together, and it seemed impossible to leave his presence without smiling. He touched countless lives simply by being himself, a man of integrity, compassion, humility, and love.

Some people measure a life by the number of years lived. Ivan's life is measured by the countless hearts he touched. Though he left this world far too soon, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will live on forever in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
